The Western Australia Police COVID-19 Response Service Medal was established to recognise Western Australia Police personnel who have completed at least six months diligent and ethical service to the Western Australia Police between 15 March 2020 to 4 November 2022.
On 15 March 2020, a Public Health State of Emergency was declared in Western Australia in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. This state of emergency officially ended on 4 November 2022.
During this time, the Western Australia Police Force played a vital role in the pandemic response whilst also continuing to maintain community safety through the delivery of fundamental policing services. This remains a remarkable achievement and demonstrates our professionalism and capability which continues to be well recognised by government and community to this day.
The first recipient of the medal was Constable Anthony WOODS 17631, who was posthumously awarded the medal on 6 July 2023.
Eligibility criteria for the medal is as follows:
• Current employees who served between 15 March 2020 to 4 November 2022, for a period of at least six months, and demonstrated ‘diligent and ethical service.’
• Former employees who served during the same period and meet the criteria can also apply for the medal once the current employee process is complete.
• The Commissioner of Police or an appointed delegate has the discretion to grant or refuse the awarding of this medal.
As this honour is an approved State Campaign Medal, in terms of the Order of Precedence, it will be positioned before the WA Police Service Medal.
